Here’s an interesting (and dumb) claim – made by a Russian Political Science professor:
Russian Analyst Predicts Decline and Breakup of USA
A leading Russian political analyst [Igor Panarin] has said the economic turmoil in the United States has confirmed his long-held view that the country is heading for collapse, and will divide into separate parts.
…
He predicted that the U.S. will break up into six parts – the Pacific coast, with its growing Chinese population; the South, with its Hispanics; Texas, where independence movements are on the rise; the Atlantic coast, with its distinct and separate mentality; five of the poorer central states with their large Native American populations; and the northern states, where the influence from Canada is strong.He even suggested that “we could claim Alaska – it was only granted on lease, after all.” Panarin, 60, is a professor at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and has authored several books on information warfare.

I think maybe seeing the collapse and breakup of the USSR has influenced his ideas a bit too much. I wonder: does he even know how large the Chinese population is in the Pacific West? (California is only 12% Asian – and only a fraction of that is Chinese.) What states have “large Native American populations”? He thinks the South has a large Hispanic population? Did he mean the Southwest? And why would he think Texas would break away separately from states that have a large Hispanic population? The whole thing just seems silly. I have to admit, though, that I’m kind of fascinated by the way hope and fear influences our predictions about the future – and overrule more accurate, rational predictions. I’m also amazed at the number of clueless “experts” in the world.
Pff, we Canucks claim first dibs on Alaska!
Well, my Canadian cousin. I’m not ready to be Canadian just yet. But if the US has to break up then Canada would be my first choice, old Britania would be second choice. But if any other government in the would that trys to impose its will on Texas or the US, then its time for the guns to come out. Although we have a strong Hispanic herritage in Texas that we will never let go of, we are Americans. Be we black, white or brown, we’re Americans first. And some of us maybe lazy no good sponges on the system, but even the sponges will fight. But I would like to ask one thing from Canada this time. When the fighting down here starts, if any of our folks show up at your door step this time. Please tell them as proud Canadians, ” If you won’t even fight for your own counrty we dont want you in Canada” and send their cowardly Azz’s packin. I will never say that a civil war in the US could never happen. We already had one you know. But just to remind guys like this Russian Boob. Regardless of what you may have heard that war was fought to preseve the union and hold this nation together, not just to free slaves. That was just a wrong that needed to be set right at the same time. And even though there may still be some reminders from our black brothers that their pepole was slaves and how wrong it was for a nation to do that. Our black brothers also remember that there was whole lot of whiite boy’s dying to right that wrong. And some like this russian guy may think about exploiting the divison between blacks and white in this country just a word of advice. Our black brothers and sisters are not ready to serve the Krimlin or any other government. Just because we are not completly happy with ours dont mean we are ready to be ruled by others. If the US were to break up, I’m pretty sure that in Texas we will do our own thing and not look to Mexico. Although I do believe that we need to have a North American Alliance between Canada the US and Mexico.
yes i belive igor true. you should know that russian broke after loss from afghanistan. when the US loss in Afghanistan, the US will break too. i think igor is clever man
Igor Panarin, though he is not a Christian, voices a truth that is prophesied in the biblical book of Daniel, chapter 8. The United States will attack Iran by air, and shortly thereafter, it will collapse and be broken into 4 divisions, not 6.

Heh. That’s some interesting logic you have there. Nevermind the fact that the USSR was constructed from a bunch of different groups with different identities who didn’t particularly like being ruled by Moscow. The US is far more homogeneous – and the divisions that do exist (i.e. racial differences) don’t fall along state boundaries. They would need to fall along state boundaries in order for the US to break-up.

Well, I grew up in a Christian fundamentalist household, and I heard about all these ‘end times’ prophecies. There’s quite an art to interpreting Daniel and Revelations. Seems every generation has a handful of different interpretations – where they fill-in the powerful nations of their time. For all the other readers, here’s the relevant sections of Daniel 8:
I think it’s obvious from the passage that the “goat” that gets split into four parts is Greece – because that’s what verse 21 actually says. Seems like your interpretation is a pretty big stretch. I’m surprised you don’t feel silly pulling your interpretation out of Daniel 8.
Other people have claimed that Daniel 8 is a prophecy about Alexander the Great (who was Greek), who conquered Persia in 323 BC (see map). When Alexander died, his kingdom was split among his four generals. It’s remarkably accurate if that was the prediction. Except there are several problems: First, the Bible says this prophecy is about the end of days. Second, no one knows exactly when Daniel was written. It was written before the first century BC (because there are copies of it among the Dead Sea scrolls). But, there’s still a wide time gap. This has lead many people to suggest that Daniel was written after the events described, but they pretended it was a prophecy written hundreds of years earlier. Funny enough, they claimed it was the end of days – because whoever wrote it (probably in the second or third century BC) believed the end of the world was soon at hand. That tired old story about the ‘end is near’ never seems to get old, does it?

8:17 says understand that the vision concerns the time of
the end.
This verse would put this prophecies fulfillment in our time which we all agree is the last days or end times. Daniel said in his vision of the image that the image would begin to stand up in the end times. Iraq (Babylon) Head of Gold stood up against the Nations of the world and was conquered. Iran (Persia) is standing up and will force a coalition led by the United States to put her down. America is near bankruptcy and another war with Iran will cause the Goat (United States) Horn to be broken. We will cease to be a Super Power thus the Revived Roman Empire which Daniel spoke of will fill the void and become Super Power in the last days. Prophecy can be two fold but its impossible to place this prophecies fulfillment in any time line other than the time of the end.
@George
Well, I already explained why this “prophecy” isn’t about the United States. Additionally, throughout history, people have tried to fill-in the characters of these visions with contemporary nations. No doubt, a hundred years ago, people were filling-in the blanks with “Prussia” or the “Ottoman Empire”, and before that, they were saying Napolean was obviously “the antichrist” – totally convinced that they were deciphering the truth.
