Perhaps the reason some of these guys campaign so hard against these "vices" is that they fight them every day. I also imagine that they believe that everyone has similar struggles, and they think that they need to preach against them because everyone fights the same battles that they face. Really I don't have any rationalization for this other than trying to justify why so many "moral crusaders" end up looking like hypocrites. I’ve thought along very similar lines recently.
